Gilgandra is a rural centre, serving a strong, vibrant region. If you head down the main street, you’ll find restaurants, cafes, a bakery and retail stores well worth a wander.

At its heart, Gilgandra is a farming town, with grain cropping, sheep and cattle. But our real strength is our people, who will always be up for a chat at one of the local pubs or if you see them around town.

Gil (as it’s known by the locals) is best known as the birthplace of the Coo-ee March. In 1915 the Hitchen brothers began the 500 km recruitment march for World War I. 25 recruits left and they arrived in Sydney with 263 recruits. That’s the community spirit of Gilgandra in action.

It’s also well-known as a town of windmills. Visit and you might just see why!
